Gut Health Nutritionist

Having personally struggled with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), imbalances in my gut microbiome, hormonal imbalances and skin issues for years, I know first-hand how frustrating/time consuming/expensive navigating your health journey can be.

After seeing countless doctors, specialists and naturopaths who couldn't help me,  I went on a journey to uncover what was really causing me to feel so unbalanced, and how to fix it for good. I even went back to University and studied a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine), with the goal of helping others in the same position I was once in.

I no longer suffer with these gut issues that had plagued me for my whole life.

With so much conflicting information online, it can be confusing, expensive and time consuming to navigate your health journey on your own.

I'm here to take you down the fast lane and help you to find answers and solutions to your gut health problems. I'll help uncover why you're so bloated all the time, what is causing your IBS, why you can't lose weight, why you have suddenly developed adult acne. All those problems no one seems to have answers for.

I can help you understand what your symptoms mean and why even though your conventional test results may be "normal", you know things aren't quite right.

Using proven research and clinical experience I will help you find solutions to your health problems you may have been lead to believe cannot be fixed.

I'm here to show you that you don't need to live your life restricting foods to help manage symptoms, taking medication, in chronic pain, or feeling like your weight is out of your control.

Instead, we will work together to get to the bottom of your health complaints so you can continue living the high energy, happy and fulfilling life you deserve.

Address the root of your gut health problems

The initial consultation

Before we meet for the first time, I'll ask you to complete a preliminary health questionnaire and provide any recent medical test results.

During our first consultation I’ll take time to determine how your gut health symptoms are impacting your life. I’ll explore your personal and family history for risk factors that may predispose you to complications. We’ll talk about your sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing, hormone and liver health, diet and lifestyle.

I will formulate a detailed plan for the best way to begin which you will receive within 24 hours. This plan will include practical nutritional and lifestyle recommendations to help you on your way to feeling better.

Functional testing and treatment plan

If necessary, functional testing can eliminate the guesswork by uncovering any specific bacterial, parasitic or yeast overgrowth. I will prepare a referral for your GP to order any blood tests required. You will also have access to the latest functional testing if desired.

Now that you have a treatment plan, you can start implementing my recommendations. I generally allow 3-4 weeks for this stage, to allow adequate time to see some changes and identify any obstacles. During this time you might need to track your symptoms and record a food/lifestyle diary.

Follow-up consultations

Three to four weeks later we will meet for your first follow-up consultation. By now you will have implemented some of the diet and lifestyle changes and possibly started on nutritional supplements. We will have the results from any blood/functional testing requested and can discuss your progress and ongoing goals.

We may need to adjust the prescription of supplements, set new goals for your treatment, and schedule future appointments. I will give you an idea of how long it will take to see results.

Ongoing support

As a minimum, I recommend at least 2-3 follow up appointments over three months before we get you on a maintenance plan. Gut health symptoms can take some time to get under control. Once we stabilise symptoms many of my clients check in with me every six months or as needed to adjust the treatment plan.

Are you ready to kiss goodbye to your gut issues? You can book a FREE 15 minute phone consultation with me to discuss your health concerns and goals and find out if I am a good fit for your wellness journey.

FAQs

Do you only work with digestive issues?

I work with clients who have a broad range of complaints and goals beyond digestive problems, including body composition goals, hormonal problems (including perimenopause, menopause, endometriosis and PCOS), skin problems (such as acne, eczema, psoriasis), metabolic syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes. Most of these have a strong link to the gut. However, I'm happy to work with any health issues that I feel qualified to assist with from a nutritional perspective. If I think there is someone better suited for you, I will refer you to a different practitioner where possible.

Do you offer functional testing?

Yes, I am trained in interpreting and providing appropriate treatments for a broad range of functional tests such as SIBO Breath test and stool tests. I will recommend a test if I think it is going to provide important information about your underlying issues. I can access testing without a doctor's referral. I am also happy to review any tests that you have already had during a consultation.

How much does an initial consultation cost?

The initial consultation costs $165 for 90 minutes. Subsequent appointments cost $125 (60 minutes) or $65 (30 minutes). Health fund rebates are available for health funds that cover nutrition (please contact your health fund to find out if they cover Nutrition).

Maintenance consultations are 30-minute mini-appointments ($65) as needed to check-in, make minor modifications to your treatment plan, re-prescribe, and review pathology / investigations.
